The coin is based on the artwork of the the 19th-century Japanese ukiyo-e 浮世絵 wood block artist, 歌川 広重 Utagawa Hiroshige’s woodblock print is called 平清盛怪異を見る図 Taira Kiyomoi Kaii wo miruzu, it shows the samurai 平清盛 Taira Kiyomoi as a veteran of battle when he is older as he looks out over the snow-covered garden from his palace home, seeing visions of the skeletons of his many slain enemies.
Taira no Kiyomori was a 12th-century Japanese military leader during the late Heian period in Japan. As the head of the Taira clan, Kiyomori gained power & influence through his military triumphs during the Hōgen and Heiji Rebellions. 平清盛 Taira Kiyomoi brought an end to direct Imperial rule and establishing the first samurai-dominated administrative government in the history of Japan.
The opposite side of the coin features the Fijian coat of arms and traditional Japanese patterns.
