The 5,000 Yen coin’s front shows the one of the Winter Paralympic sports, alpine skiing. The back shows the Kamoshika, the Japanese serow or goat antelope. Kamoshika can often be seen at Yaen-koen, in Jigokudani, Nagano Prefecture.

The 500 Yen coin’s front shows freestyle skiing. The back shows the official bird of Nagano prefecture, the Japanese Ptarmigan. In Japanese it’s called Raichō which means which means “thunder bird”.
